    The Borough of Croydon formed in 1965 and the name derives from Saxon times, meaning “valley of the crocuses!” – Crocuses are a plant in the iris family, for those wondering!

    As mentioned above, Croydon has always been a leader in financial and business sectors; this dates back to when the area boasted the city’s first and only airport of its time. The now defunct airport is a Grade II listed building and a tourist attraction.

    Looking forward, Croydon has a large regeneration plan running. The plans aim to make the area London’s “third city” by 2020 and are pumping £3.5 billion into major “master plans” in East, West and Mid Croydon as well as Fairfield and Oldtown.

    Croydon acts as a gateway from South London to Central London and has many major roads running through it, including Purely Way – great for commuters. The Borough has so many great opportunities of its own that you don’t have to see it only as a commuter choice for London (despite the fact it is), but also a great place to live and work.

    The Brighton Mainline rail links Croydon with Sussex, Kent and Surrey to the South, and Central London to the north. The M25, M23 and A23 roads link Croydon with many key areas, including; Central London, Gatwick, Crawley and East Sussex.

    There is also a massive public transport infrastructure running throughout Croydon with regular routes on train, tram and buses.

    East Croydon Station is just a 5 minute walk away. It is a major transport hub for trains buses and trams. 

    East Croydon Station is your gateway to London and the South East, use your Oyster or Travel card for convenient, frequent and speedy travel Directly into Central London. London Victoria in 16 mins and London Bridge in 20 mins.

    Once in Central London you can access all of London's transport network, Underground, trains, trams and buses and see all that the one of the worlds leading cities has to offer. 
    Direct non stop and frequent 24 hour service to London Gatwick Airport normally in just 14 mins makes travelling to the airport a breeze. 

    The excellent tram system serving Croydon can also take you directly to Wimbledon, home of the famous tennis tournament. It takes just 30 minutes and costs around £4

      We loved our stay in Gary’s flat! By far the best apartment we ever stayed in Croydon! Plus a very comfortable private parking behind the building, and also very convenient to reach the train station by a short walk for who doesn’t have a car! We definitely will be back!!!

      We stayed 14th-19th Nov. Perfect place to stay. Perfect location. Check in was very easy. Kids friendly house. Surely will come back again. Highly recommended.

      Gary's apartment was clean, spacious and centrally located. The bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept in! His listing description is spot on. The public transportation system was a 7 minute walk along with a grocer and the new Boxpark. I would definitely stay here again when visiting London.

      London was our first stop on our U.K. and Euro trip and Gary's apartment was great. It isn't located in central London and we had a few locals question why we would want to stay in Croyden, however it was only a 3 minute walk to the train station and then only 15 minutes on the train into central London. We were met at the apartment by Alexandra who showed us all we needed to know and answered some questions regarding public transport for us. We were surprised to see there was tea and coffee available for us which we didn't expect and the apartment was in perfect condition - it looks exactly like the pictures! Hosts were really easy to contact
